Sharing My Japanese Learning Journey: From N5 to N3

JLPTN3

Hello dear readers! In this article, I will continue to share my Japanese language learning journey, progressing from the N5 level to N3. As mentioned in my previous article, I applied a set of learning methods for my N5 exam, and these methods continued to prove effective as I ventured into N4. However, as the challenge of N3 approached, I identified a weakness that needed improvement – my listening skills. This prompted me to adjust my learning approach and explore new ways to achieve my goals.

Transitioning from Grammar and Vocabulary to Kanji and Listening Skills

During my N5 and N4 exam preparations, I primarily focused on studying grammar and vocabulary.

While these are crucial, I realized that my listening skills needed enhancement as I approached N3. Therefore, I modified my study plan by dedicating more time to learning kanji and practicing listening skills.

Listening Skill Improvement

To enhance my listening skills, I devised a clear plan. In the initial stages, I spent time listening to short videos on YouTube. I played the videos at a slower pace and tried to transcribe the content. Although transcription could be time-consuming and somewhat tedious initially, I was confident it would yield significant results. After establishing this habit, I transitioned to practice exams by finding listening comprehension exercises on YouTube and attempted to listen and select answers. It was crucial to listen attentively only once, just like in the actual exam. This helped me train for real-life listening scenarios and boosted my confidence for the test.

Vocabulary Learning through Games

For vocabulary learning, I employed an engaging and effective method. Since I was often reluctant to write on paper, I opted to use the “Bucha Tiếng Nhật” app. This app compiles all vocabulary and kanji from N5 to N1, categorizing them into lessons that you must complete to advance to the next level. What I loved most about using this app was its time-saving aspect. For example, when I was a student and frequently used the bus for commuting, I seized the opportunity to play games and memorize vocabulary during the bus ride. Moreover, through gaming on the app, I also learned many Kanji, which proved to be highly beneficial.

So, these are my insights into my Japanese language learning experience during the N3 exam preparation phase. I hope that what I’ve shared will be helpful to you in your own Japanese language learning journey. Never give up, and always strive to achieve your learning goals!
